Kanyika community in Malawi accuses Globe Metals of avoiding compensation

Members of the Kanyika community are taking legal action against Globe Metals & Mining Ltd.'s Malawian subsidiary, Globe Metals & Mining (Africa) Ltd., and the government to seek compensation for exploration on its land.

The complaint, filed in the High Court of Malawi in August 2017, alleges the company carried out exploration and mining activities on the Kanyika niobium project area without honoring its compensation obligations.

Globe Metals said March 23 that it denies all claims and is discussing the matter with the government and Malawi's attorney general. The company also said was never served any court papers on the matter.
