Roku launches new kids, family content offering on The Roku Channel

Roku Inc.'s TV and movie streaming service, The Roku Channel, is adding a new kids and family content offering.

The "Kids & Family" offering includes shows, movies, live linear and short-form video from various free and paid kids' channels, the company said Aug. 19. Users with premium subscriptions can view subscription-based kids and family content from Roku partners, including Hopster, Noggin and Zoomoo.

Created by Roku's in-house editorial team, the section includes 7,000 free ad-supported movies and TV episodes.

The streaming giant also unveiled features that allow parents to control content their kids can view. Offered with PIN-based playback controls, this feature can help parents set access limits to content based on ratings, the company said.

Roku also struck an advertising sponsorship pact with LEGO Systems Inc. for the "Kids & Family" offering.
