Banks’ Response to Rising Rates & Liquidity Concerns

US files suit against JPMorgan over discriminatory lending accusations

The U.S. government filed a complaint in a Manhattan federal court against JPMorgan Chase & Co. alleging that the bank discriminated against minority borrowers, Reuters reported Jan. 18.

The complaint asserted that between 2006 and 2009 the bank charged higher rates and fees on home mortgage loans to African-American and Hispanic borrowers, violating the U.S. Fair Housing Act and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, the news outlet said.
