AbbVie, Allergan receive FTC request for more information on $84.2B merger

Allergan PLC has received a request for more information from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission with regard to its pending $84.2 billion acquisition by AbbVie Inc.

The request is the second from the regulatory agency, Allergan said in a release. The Dublin-based company said it was "as expected."

Both AbbVie and Allergan received the request, but did not specifically mention what the FTC was investigating.

The FTC issued the request under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act, and the planned merger would need the agency's clearance before completion.

AbbVie and Allergan said they are cooperating with the FTC, and they still plan to complete the merger in 2020.
