FirstEnergy Corp. issued a request for proposals Sept. 30 to purchase solar renewable energy credits and renewable energy credits for its Ohio utilities.
The SRECs and RECs in the request for proposals must comply with the utilities' 2019 renewable energy obligations in accordance with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio's rules and procedures. The credits should be deliverable through PJM Interconnection's environmental information system generation attribute tracking system and generated between Jan. 1, 2017, and Dec. 31, 2019.
The utilities, including Ohio Edison Co., Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co. and Toledo Edison Co., are not purchasing energy or renewable capacity through the request for proposals.
A SREC or REC are equivalent to the environmental attributes of one megawatt-hour of generation from a renewable generating facility, qualified by the commission. The cost of the RECs is recovered from utility customers through a monthly charge filed quarterly with the commission.
Interested parties are required to submit their applications by Oct. 29, while the proposals are due Nov. 5 by 5 p.m. ET. The solicitation's manager is Dan Bradley, a managing director at Navigant Consulting Inc., who can be reached at manager@FEOhioRECRFP.com.
