The New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission has approved Eversource Energy's request to lower its energy service charge to 11.25 cents per kWh, from 11.66 cents per kWh.
The change is for the three-month period from Jan. 1 to March 31, in anticipation of the sale completion of the company's power plants and to facilitate the implementation of a new method of calculating the energy charge, according to a Jan. 3 release.
Combined with adjustments on the delivery portion of the bill, an average residential customers using 600 kWh of energy will see a decrease of 86 cents in their monthly bill to $123.64, from $124.50.
Following the initial shift to a competitive market-based default energy service rate, the company will adjust its default energy service charge twice a year on Feb. 1 and Aug. 1. The shift from the Jan. 1 adjustment will help protect customers from price volatility, the company said.
