Uniqlo Japan same-store sales fall 4.11% YOY in September

Fast Retailing Co. Ltd.'s flagship apparel brand Uniqlo posted a 4.11% year-over-year drop in domestic same-store sales in September.

The decline follows a 9.9% year-over-year rise in domestic same-store sales in August.

Sales from the Japanese fast-fashion giant's directly run Uniqlo stores, including online sales, fell 4.3% year over year in September.

The company said same-store sales fell in September due to persistently warm weather throughout the month. On a year-to-date basis, same-store sales declined 4.2%, while online sales and sales from Uniqlo's own stores decreased 4.3%.

Meanwhile, customer numbers on a same-store basis during the month inched up 0.4% year over year, while customer numbers at the company's own stores and online also climbed 0.5% from September 2018.

The average purchase per customer on a same-store basis was down 4.6% in September and 4.6% on a year-to-date basis. The company's own stores, including online sales, saw average customer purchase slide 4.7% during the month and 4.7% on a year-to-date basis.

Fast Retailing closed nine Uniqlo stores and opened four in Japan during the month.
