India's insurance regulator granted Markel International Ltd. a license to write reinsurance business in the country.
The U.K.-based specialist insurer said June 11 that Markel's Syndicate 3000 at Lloyd's will provide it the capacity and it will write the reinsurance business through Lloyd's India platform.
Markel India will be led by Deepika Mathur, the insurer said. It will provide treaty and facultative reinsurance to Indian insurers across a range of commercial classes with initial focuses on marine, energy, contingency, and professional and financial risks.
Markel International is a unit of Markel Corp.
