Minn. co-op Wright-Hennepin introduces rate designs for renewable energy choices

Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association has announced two new rate designs to give consumers additional clean energy choices.

Under the first program, called Renewable Choice, the member-owned electric utility will offer a choice to residential consumers to back 100% of their energy consumption with "renewable attributes" for $1 per month. With $12 per year, Wright-Hennepin will secure renewable attributes to cover 12 MWh of energy consumed, roughly equal to the usage of an average home in the cooperative's service territory.

Under the second program, Solar Choice, members can purchase "blocks of energy" at 100 kWh per month, for $16 per block, locked in for up to 20 years. Wright-Hennepin said it will utilize existing renewable resources in its portfolio to support the program.

Wright-Hennepin is headquartered in Rockford, Minn.
