U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Rick Perry is expected to announce his resignation from the Trump administration by the end of November, according to a report by Politico.
Citing three people familiar with the matter, who requested anonymity to discuss the departure before an official announcement was made, Politico Oct. 3 reported that Perry's departure has been planned for several months and is not related to Perry's travels to Ukraine that have come under scrutiny in connection with the Congressional impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump.
The article did not give a reason for Perry's potential decision to resign his post. Deputy Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette is expected to replace Perry.
In an email, DOE spokesperson Shaylyn Hynes downplayed the Politico report.
"While the Beltway media has breathlessly reported on rumors of Secretary Perry's departure for months, he is still the Secretary of Energy and a proud member of President Trump’s Cabinet. One day the media will be right. Today is not that day," Hynes said.
