Spanish telecom giant Telefónica SA has agreed to team up with China Unicom in the field of internet of things.
The deal will see the two companies gaining access to each other's networks while working together to deploy IoT services across their respective footprints.
The partnership also involves the launch of a unified global SIM card that Telefónica and China Unicom's business customers can use to roll out IoT products with the help of a single connectivity management platform.
The new IoT-based services are expected to be launched later in 2018, according to a news release.
Telefónica and China Unicom previously created a joint venture to provide big data services in China. In addition, Telefónica used to own stakes in China Unicom until 2016, when the former sold the holdings to further reduce its debt.
