Rockwell Medical Inc. said Robert Chioini was fired as CEO and president.
Further, Chioini resigned as a director and will not stand for re-election to the board at the company's annual meeting.
"Having completed a top to bottom review of our business, it was determined that a change in leadership at this time is in the best interests of all our key stakeholders," said Chairman Ben Wolin.
The company said it has started a search for a permanent CEO.
Wixom, Mich.-based Rockwell Medical develops drugs for blood and kidney applications.
