Report: BuzzFeed eyes backing from Emerson Collective

BuzzFeed Inc. is eyeing a potential investment from Emerson Collective LLC, a company owned by the widow of the late Apple Inc. co-founder Steve Jobs, two people with knowledge of the talks told the Financial Times.

Discussions are reportedly underway for Laurene Powell Jobs' Emerson Collective to invest in BuzzFeed's news division, though sources said it is possible a deal may not happen.

Emerson Collective, which focuses on education, immigration reform, the environment and other social justice matters, took a majority stake in The Atlantic magazine in 2017. BuzzFeed has received significant investments from Comcast Corp.'s NBCUniversal Media LLC in the past.
