Pop-up hotel operator WhyHotel, which was spun off from publicly traded real estate investment trust Vornado Realty Trust, received $3.9 million in seed funding from an investor group led by venture capital firm Camber Creek.
Camber Creek separately said it raised $30 million for its second fund that invests in real estate technology startups.
The funding round for WhyHotel also includes Revolution's Rise of the Rest Seed Fund, Mendacre, MetaProp, JBG SMITH Properties predecessor Vornado/Charles E. Smith, incubator and venture capital firm Working Lab Capital, Mitchell Schear and other real estate executives.
The alternative lodging service said it will use the seed money to launch hotels in its pipeline and hire top talent for projects across major cities in the U.S.
Additionally, WhyHotel rolled out its newest pop-up venture in Baltimore's Downtown/Inner Harbor area, teaming up with real estate company Monument Realty LLC to launch a pop-up hotel within the more than 150-unit apartment community at 225 N. Calvert St. during the building's lease-up, according to a release.
