Amazon launches Prime in Brazil

Amazon.com Inc. launched its Prime subscription service in Brazil, Reuters reported Sept. 10, citing a company release.

Prime members can access unlimited, free nationwide shipping and maximum 48-hour delivery time in more than 90 municipalities. Members will also have access to movies, music, digital books and magazines, the report said.

Subscription fees cost 9.90 Brazilian reais per month, or 89 reais annually.

Prime's entry in the Brazilian market is seen as the Seattle-based company's attempt to dislodge local competitors such as Magazine Luiza and Mercado Libre, the newswire added.

As of Sept. 10, US$1 was equivalent to 4.11 Brazilian reais.
