National Fuel Gas joins EPA program aimed at reducing methane emissions

National Fuel Gas Co. accepted the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's challenge designed to help producers track and reduce methane emissions.

As part of National Fuel's acceptance into the EPA's Natural Gas STAR Methane Challenge Program, each of the company's participating subsidiaries will make independent commitments under the Methane Challenge best management practices appropriate to their sectors, according to a Nov. 12 news release.

One of the company's participating subsidiaries, exploration and production segment Seneca Resources Co. LLC, has participated in the agency's Natural Gas STAR Program since 2015. National Fuel's midstream units, which include National Fuel Gas Supply Corp., Empire Pipeline Inc. and National Fuel Gas Midstream Co. LLC are also participating in the challenge with a focus on better design, construction and operations for their facilities. National Fuel Gas Distribution Corp., National Fuel's utility unit, will look to improve safety and reduce emissions from its mains and lines through modernization under the program.
