O'Reilly Automotive Inc. said its first-quarter normalized net income amounted to $2.58 per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of $2.88 per share.
In the prior-year period, the per-share result was a profit of $2.57.
Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was $240.8 million, a decline of 5.0% from $253.5 million in the prior-year period.
The normalized profit margin declined to 11.2% from 12.1% in the year-earlier period.
Total revenue rose year over year to $2.16 billion from $2.10 billion, and total operating expenses rose year over year to $1.75 billion from $1.68 billion.
Reported net income grew from the prior-year period to $264.6 million, or $2.83 per share, from $255.2 million, or $2.59 per share.
