Polish lenders see continued growth in demand for housing, consumer loans in Q3

Polish banks anticipate a further increase in demand for consumer and mortgage loans in the third quarter, while also expecting lending criteria to be tightened in these segments, the Polish central bank said in its latest lending survey.

The survey, which was carried out in July among 26 Polish banks having a combined credit market share of 88%, also showed that lenders expect unchanged demand for corporate loans, while some of them foresee further tightening of lending criteria in the corporate segment, especially with regard to short-term loans for small and medium-sized businesses.

In the second quarter of 2019, Polish banks tightened lending criteria for consumer loans and slightly tightened them for corporate loans, while lending criteria for mortgage loans remained largely unchanged, Narodowy Bank Polski said Aug. 5. The surveyed lenders also said demand for mortgage and consumer loans continued to grow in the second quarter, while demand for corporate loans was unchanged.
