Cryptocurrency trader files suit against 6 banks in Chile's antitrust court

Chilean cryptocurrency trader Orionx has filed a suit against six leading banks for alleged abuse of dominant position for excluding the company from the digital payment market, Diario Financiero reported.

Orionx filed their complaint before the TDLC competition tribunal against Banco del Estado de Chile, Banco de Chile, Banco BICE, Itaú CorpBanca, Banco Santander Chile and Scotiabank Chile and also demanded that BancoEstado, one of the respondents, reopens the cryptocurrency trader's account.

The company's move follows similar lawsuits launched by its peers in the Chilean cryptocurrency sector in recent months. In April, the TDLC ordered Scotiabank and BancoEstado to reopen the bank accounts of platform CryptoMKT, and banks were ordered to do the same over shuttered accounts of trader Buda.

Both Buda and CryptoMKT filed lawsuits against a number of banks for closing their accounts, and have also asked financial industry association ABIF to clarify its position on cryptocurrency traders.

Chile's finance ministry, meanwhile, is studying the regulation of cryptocurrencies amid the dispute between traders and banks.
