Voyageur expects barite joint venture to start production in Q3

Voyageur Minerals Ltd. expects its 50%-owned ImagingX Pharmaceutical Inc. joint venture with Chief Medical Supplies Ltd. to start producing barium contrast solutions for the healthcare industry in the third quarter.

The ImagingX plant will initially use barium sulfate from a third party source. The supply is enough for the joint venture to begin tests and acquire necessary permits for manufacture and sales, Voyageur said March 6.

Voyageur is currently validating if barium from its Frances Creek project in British Columbia is suited for the joint venture. It said required work at the property, which includes design for a 5-tonne-per-hour plant and a preliminary economic assessment, is expected to be finished by 2020.

After that, the company plans to apply for quarry permits and seek approvals for continuous production.

The joint venture targets initial sales to commence by the third quarter, focusing on the Canadian market. It will also apply for certification and sales into Europe and worldwide.
