Report: Apple eyes cutting orders of new OLED iPhones by half

Apple Inc. is looking to decrease production of two new types of OLED iPhones by half, following low sales of its iPhone X, ETnews.com (Korea) reported, citing multiple sources familiar with Apple's plans.

Originally set at 100 million units, the company will now only produce about 55 million, expected to launch in the fall, according to the report. Meanwhile, Apple will reportedly increase production of LCD iPhones to 150 million units.

Apple previously reduced its order for OLED iPhone X units following lower than expected sales, a move which dealt a sharp blow to South Korean electronic parts suppliers, such as those providing Apple with OLED materials and rigid flexible printed circuit board. One company reportedly had to implement unpaid leaves on its employees, while another has become unable to operate its facilities in Vietnam.
