U.S.-headquartered hotelier Marriott International Inc. is aiming to enter Airbnb Inc.'s turf with its upmarket private home rentals trial in Britain that piloted recently, The Australian Financial Review reported.
In partnership with Hostmaker, which provides hospitality management services for vacation rentals, Marriott initiated a six-month program whereby the former will curate houses and assess the security that they offer, the president of Marriott's Asia Pacific region, Craig Smith, told the paper.
Smith said Marriott's competitor and veteran online rental space provider, Airbnb, operates primarily in a different market, the May 23 report noted.
