Georgia Power restores power to 99% of customers impacted by Hurricane Michael

Georgia Power Co. said Oct. 17 that it has completed power restoration to 99% of its customers impacted by Hurricane Michael.

The Southern Co. subsidiary said customers in some of the hardest-hit areas still may not be able to reconnect to the grid due to extensive damage, and those customers with a damaged meter box or other component must enlist a qualified electrician to repair their electric service entry point.

The category 4 hurricane damaged more than 3,500 spans of wire, 1,000 electric poles and 200 transformers in Georgia Power's service territory, according to a news release.
