Prosecutors in Brazil have opened a probe into an alleged data leak at Banco Inter SA, asking the fintech lender to explain the extent of the breach, Reuters reported May 9, citing documents obtained by the newswire.
Banco Inter, which recently carried out an initial public offering, earlier denied reports of the cyberattack that was first reported by the Tecmundo technology website, and said it had been a victim of an "internal blackmail" attempt.
The public prosecutor's office will also inform both the Brazilian central bank and the securities and exchange commission, the CVM, of the measures taken in the investigation, adding the office has already taken hold of the files that allegedly contain personal information of the fintech lender's clients.
