Union conducts illegal work stoppage at Goldcorp's Cerro Negro mine in Argentina

The AOMA union is undertaking an illegal work stoppage at Goldcorp Inc.'s Cerro Negro gold-silver mine in Argentina, the company said March 12.

Processing was discontinued due to depleted surface stockpiles after mining stopped March 8. The cause of the strike is unclear.

Goldcorp is working with the union and governmental authorities to find a resolution and resume operations. The company said mining and processing can safely restart once the workforce returns.

Cerro Negro completed a ramp-up to nameplate capacity in 2018. It expects lower grades in the first quarter due to mine sequencing.
