Offshore driller Valaris PLC was granted a contract by a joint venture comprised of Neptune Energy Ltd., oil major BP PLC and Japan Petroleum Exploration Co. Ltd., or Japex, for the Seagull Development in the U.K. North Sea.
According to a Sept. 30 release from venture partner Neptune Energy, Valaris will provide its heavy-duty jack-up drilling rig Rowan Gorilla VI, also known as VALARIS JU-248, which will be tasked to drill four firm wells for the development. The drilling campaign will last 18 months and is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2020.
The Seagull development is located in U.K. license P1622 Block 22/29C in the North Sea. The development is initially expected to produce 50,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day across its 10-year life and has estimated proved plus probable reserves of 50 million boe.
Neptune operates the development with a 35% stake while oil major BP and Japex hold interests of 50% and 15%, respectively.
