Australia's Telstra signs multiyear deal for mobile football rights

Australian telco giant Telstra Corp. Ltd. signed a five-year mobile rights and sponsorship agreement with Football Federation Australia (FFA), according to a May 10 press release.

As part of the deal, Telstra will create and launch a new My Football Live App where data-free live matches will be made available through the Telstra Live Pass for its mobile subscribers. Non-Telstra customers will have to purchase the app.

The app will also support live streaming of Hyundai A-League and select Westfield W-League, FFA Cup and the national team games.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

The parties further agreed that Telstra will be the FFA's exclusive telecoms partner of FFA and a technology partner across all FFA properties, such as Hyundai A-League, Caltex Socceroos and Westfield Matildas until 2023, the release said.

Over 1.5 million Telstra subscribers accessed live streaming of sporting games in 2017.
