Verizon teams up with 5 international telcos to create 5G-focused forum

Verizon Communications Inc. teamed up with Canadian communications and media company Rogers Communications Inc., U.K.-based Vodafone Group PLC, Mexican telco América Móvil SAB de CV, South Korea-based KT Corp. and Australian telecommunications company Telstra Corp. Ltd. to create a 5G-focused forum.

The 5G Future Forum will collaborate to develop uniform interoperable 5G specifications across key geographic regions, including the Americas, Asia-Pacific and Europe, to accelerate the delivery of 5G and mobile-edge computing-enabled services around the globe, according to a Jan. 15 company release.

The telcos will also develop public and private marketplaces to improve developer and customer access to 5G by sharing global best practices in technology deployment.
