Italy's Eni SpA announced that the Zohr gas field offshore Egypt reached the production plateau of 2.7 billion cubic feet per day five months ahead of the development plan, with the potential to increase by year-end, according to an Aug. 21 release.
The company attributed the result to the completion of eight onshore treatment production and sulfur units, the startup of two wells in the field's southern culmination and the startup of a second 216-kilometer pipeline connecting the offshore subsea production facilities to the onshore treatment plant.
The new pipeline paves the way to increasing the field's potential production rate to 3.2 Bcf/d by the end of 2019, the release said.
The Zohr field is in the offshore Shorouk block. Eni holds a 50% stake in the block. Rosneft Oil Co. PJSC, BP PLC and Mubadala Petroleum LLC hold interests of 30%, 10% and 10%, respectively.
A joint operating company owned by Eni subsidiary Ieoc Production BV and Egyptian General Petroleum Corp. called Belayim Petroleum Co., also known as Petrobel, executes the project on behalf of Petroshorouk, which is jointly held by Eni and its partners and Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Co.
