Botswana Diamonds PLC said June 6 that it was awarded the 2.5-hectare Mooikloof kimberlite pipe concession near De Beers SA's Venetia mine in South Africa's Limpopo province. It plans to explore and assess the kimberlite.
The group received a technical report for the Thorny River project in the country, which confirmed potentially positive economics, and decided the project requires further investigation.
In addition, exploration at Ontevreden, which, like Thorny River, is a part of the wider Vutomi project, has shown that the kimberlite pipe is smaller than previously envisaged and is not commercial. Botswana Diamonds therefore does not intend to pursue further work at Ontevreden.
