Trump may invite Kim to US if Singapore summit goes well

U.S. President Donald Trump is open to the idea of inviting Kim Jong Un to the United States if all goes well during the Singapore summit June 12.

"Maybe we'll start with the White House," Trump said after being asked if he would invite Kim to Washington, D.C., or to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

Despite his optimism about meeting with Kim, Trump reiterated that he is still willing to cancel the meetings if he feels they will not be held in good faith.

"All I can say is I am totally prepared to walk away," Trump said during a press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the White House. "I did it once before," he said, referencing the letter he sent to Kim last month calling off the summit.

Trump also said his administration continues to exert its maximum-pressure campaign on the North Korean regime and has not eliminated any sanctions, despite the fact that he is no longer using the term "maximum pressure" when discussing the country.

"I just don't think it's nice, going in under those circumstances," to use the term, Trump said, adding that his future use of the phrase could show how well the summit went.

"You'll know how well we do with the negotiation if you hear me saying we're going to use maximum pressure," he said. "You'll know the negotiation did not do well, frankly."
