City Council approves Entergy New Orleans advanced meter plan

The New Orleans City Council on Feb. 14 approved Entergy New Orleans LLC's multiyear plan to install advanced meters at homes and businesses in Orleans Parish.

The Entergy Corp. subsidiary said in a news release the meters will bring faster outage restoration, improved customer service and help save money.

Entergy New Orleans said it is designing and will deploy the systems and infrastructure needed to install advanced meters. Meter installation is expected to begin in early 2019 and will be completed by the end of 2021. The utility said this timeline is based on the experiences of industry peers.

The company will also upgrade gas meters for customers to provide them with data to improve gas usage and lower bills.

Entergy Louisiana LLC on July 26 received Louisiana Public Service Commission approval for its multiyear plan to install advanced meters at homes and businesses.

The council is also reviewing a proposal filed by Entergy New Orleans to build 5 MW of commercial-scale rooftop solar systems in Orleans Parish.
