Report: JD.com plans to launch unstaffed stores in Hong Kong, expand e-commerce

Chinese online retailer JD.com Inc. is looking to partner with Hong Kong fashion brands and launch its drone delivery service and unstaffed convenience stores in Hong Kong, the South China Morning Post reported March 14, citing Ben Chuk, JD's senior business development manager.

Chuk said JD wants to make Hong Kong fashion brands accessible to customers in mainland China.

JD already made agreements with cosmetics retailer Sa Sa International Holdings Ltd. and Dairy Farm International Holdings Ltd.'s food and drinks business Maxim's Caterers. Chuk said the company is considering a potential partnership with Hong Kong brands to launch unstaffed convenience stores, the likes of which are already operational in China.

The e-commerce giant also partnered with Li & Fung (Retailing) Ltd. to develop artificial intelligence-based retail solutions and build an AI research center.
