ENGIE North America Inc. announced Dec. 20 that it completed construction of a 4-MW lithium-ion battery system in Firestone, Colo., for electric cooperative United Power Co. LLC.
ENGIE SA's distributed solar team described the project as "the largest Lithium-ion battery storage project ever built in Colorado." Tesla Inc. provided the battery packs for the project. The battery storage system can supply up to 16 MWh of power and help United Power save approximately $1 million each year, according to a news release.
"We believe that demand for storage projects such as this will continue to grow rapidly and that the collaborative approach taken here is a clear indication of what can be achieved," ENGIE North America Business Development Vice President Luis Felipe Birolini said.
