China regulator to inspect banks' property-related businesses

China's banking regulator will inspect the practices of property-related businesses of banks in 32 cities, including Beijing, Shenzhen and Shanghai, Xinhua News Agency reported Aug. 10.

The China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission will examine banks' real estate credit policies, as well as their financing services for property and land development to prevent lending to "ineligible" companies, the report said.

The move came after the People's Bank of China urged banks to keep their loans in the property sector at a reasonable level while increasing credit support for key areas and weak parts of the economy, the report added.
