Trump names Mulvaney as acting White House chief of staff

President Donald Trump said Dec. 14 that his top budget official, Mick Mulvaney, will become the White House chief of staff on an interim basis as he continues to look for someone to take the spot permanently.

The current White House chief of staff, John Kelly, is leaving at the end of 2018, and media reports have swirled about several potential replacements.

Trump said on Twitter that Mulvaney, the director of the Office of Management and Budget, will fill the role for now. Mulvaney recently wrapped up another temporary posting as the acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, whose permanent director started this week.
