Intuitive Surgical gets US FDA nod for urologic surgery technology

Intuitive Surgical Inc. said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration cleared its da Vinci SP surgical system for use in certain urologic procedures.

The system was approved for urologic surgeries, or those involving the male and female urinary tract, as well as the male reproductive system. The procedures must be appropriate for a single port approach, or those involving a single, small incision.

Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Intuitive Surgical's da Vinci SP surgical system is robotic-assisted technology designed for deep and narrow access to tissue in the body.
