Japanese auto manufacturer Honda Motor Co. Ltd. will stop selling new CR-V models in China after its recall plan of about 350,000 cars was rejected by a Chinese quality agency, Reuters reported March 2.
According to the report, Honda and its joint venture partner Dongfeng Motor Group Co. Ltd. may have to halt new sales of the Civic model, which also showed faulty engine design.
To resolve this issue, Honda proposed a recall of the models on Feb. 12 but a company spokesperson said that officials of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine responded that the plan, which Honda devised in a month, was "not enough."
Reuters said the agency suggested that the manufacturer "could extend the warranty coverage period of the affected cars."
The Honda spokesman said that the company expects to approach the agency with a revised plan but did not elaborate on the details.
