Report: VMware buys San Francisco startup Intrinsic

VMware Inc. acquired San Francisco-based startup Intrinsic in a bid to expand its presence in the cloud technology market, CNBC reported.

Founded in 2015, Intrinsic offers application runtime security technology that protects against attacks.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The purchase follows VMware's announced acquisitions of cloud-based firms Pivotal Software Inc. in August and Avi Networks Inc. in June.
