Apple Inc. could soon cut ties with Dialog Semiconductor Plc, as the iPhone maker is looking to produce its own power management chips as early as 2018, the Nikkei Asian Review reported Nov. 30, citing industry sources.
The planned in-house power management chips will be exclusively designed by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., which also supplies Apple's iPhone core processor chips, as well as Dialog's power management chips for iPhones.
Apple previously severed ties with Imagination Technologies and will stop using the British chip maker's designs within two years.
