Industrial new orders in Italy decreased 4.5% in January from December 2017 on a seasonally adjusted basis as new orders fell significantly in domestic markets and to a lesser extent in nondomestic markets.
New orders increased by 1.7% for the three months ended January from the previous three months, the country's National Institute of Statistics said.
The seasonally adjusted turnover index, a measure of monthly evolution of sales by industrial enterprises at current prices, declined 2.8% in January from the previous month. But industrial turnover increased 2.1% in the three months ended January, compared with the previous three months.
Seasonally adjusted industrial production in Italy fell 1.9% in January from the prior month.
