The Virginia State Corporation Commission has approved Appalachian Power Co.'s petition to recover costs related to its participation in Virginia's Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard Program.
Adopting a stipulation filed by the commission staff and the utility, the commission granted the American Electric Power Co. Inc. subsidiary $5.70 million for the renewable portfolio standard-rate adjustment clause (RPS-RAC), slightly lower than the company's original calculation of $5.76 million for the 2018 rate year. The proposed revenue factor is effective April 1, 2018, through March 31, 2019.
As such, average residential customers using 1,000 kWh will see an increase of about 65 cents in their monthly bills. The commission also directed the company to file its next RPS-RAC petition by June 1.
