Facebook Inc. on May 23 revealed new strategies to fight fake news, including a short film communicating its approach.
Director Morgan Neville spent time with the social network's News Feed team to create "Facing Facts," which is accessible through new site Inside Feed.
Facebook said it will remove accounts and content that violates its policies and "take action against entire Pages and websites that repeatedly share false news."
In selected countries, it is teaming up with third-party fact-checkers examining articles and posts on the platform. An algorithm that flags stories deemed suspicious will also filter content before it goes through the fact-checkers.
Facebook is also rolling out an updated news literacy campaign to educate people on ways to spot false news. The campaign, which will begin in the U.S., will be seen on users' News Feeds and in print ads.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg told the European Parliament on May 22 that Facebook is building more advanced artificial intelligence tools to detect fake accounts and will work with governments to identify misinformation threats during future elections.
