Total U.S. nuclear plant availability rose to 93.38% early May 23, up from 92.68% on May 22 and above the 85.06% reported on the same day a year ago.
Lifting total output was increased generation at a handful of units around the country. Riverstone Holdings LLC's Susquehanna 1 in Pennsylvania was pegged at 98% early May 23, up from 85% on May 22. Tennessee Valley Authority's Browns Ferry 2 in Alabama was operating at full power early May 23, climbing from 83% on May 22. Exelon Corp.'s Clinton Power Station in Illinois saw output rise from 4% on May 22 to 23% early May 23.
In addition, Unit 1 of Entergy Corp.'s Arkansas Nuclear One in Arkansas was at 37% early May 23, up from 15% on May 22.
On the other hand, Exelon reduced production at its James A FitzPatrick plant in New York. The unit was at 80% power early May 23, down from 92% on May 22.
As of early May 23, a total of four nuclear units remain shut.
