Statoil changes name to Equinor, ticker to EQNR

Norwegian oil and gas major Statoil ASA changed its name to Equinor ASA in a bid to reposition itself as a broader energy company.

Shareholders approved the new name at the company's annual general meeting May 15.

"The name Equinor reflects ongoing changes and supports the always safe, high value and low carbon strategy we outlined last year," chair of the board Jon Erik Reinhardsen said previously.

Starting May 16, the company's shares will be quoted on Oslo Børs with the new name and the new ticker EQNR.
