Report: JD.com eyes entry into China's ride-hailing market

JD.com Inc. has moved to expand its business operations into China's ride-hailing market, Gasgoo reported Sept. 4, citing Chinese media.

The Chinese online retailer's logistics subsidiary, Jiangsu Jingdong Information Technology Co. Ltd., has updated its business scope on the country's National Enterprise Credit Information Public System, according to Gasgoo. The agency's website showed that the businesses added were online taxi booking, vehicle and auto parts sales, and public transportation services. The unit's primary function is reportedly express delivery.

Logistics operations are a focus of JD.com's investment and strategic plans as the e-commerce giant builds out its proprietary warehouse and smart supply chain network, which includes various modes of transport. The company is also working to make its services available to third-party businesses.

China's ride-hailing market is currently dominated by Didi Chuxing Technology Co. Ltd.
