German education ministry pledges €300M for research on hydrogen energy

Germany's Ministry of Education and Research has pledged at least €300 million for the research of energy produced from hydrogen by 2023, according to an Oct. 9 news release.

The ministry has already pledged 180 million toward hydrogen research. "We will increase the intensity of our research into green hydrogen, that is, hydrogen produced by the sun and wind," said Anja Karliczek, education and research minister, said.

In July, Federal Economic Affairs and Energy Minister Peter Altmaier announced €300 million to support hydrogen research with a promise that Germany will become the "world number one" in hydrogen technologies. With the most recent announcement, the two German government ministries have pledged €780 million to hydrogen research.
