JPMorgan unit, Paymentech sue Landry's over breach of contract

JPMorgan Chase Bank NA and payment processing firm Paymentech LLC sued Landry's Inc. over accusations that Landry's refused to reimburse about $20.1 million it owed to the companies due to a 2015 data breach.

The lawsuit states that in 2008, JPMorgan Chase and Paymentech agreed to provide payment card processing services to Landry's, a multibranding dining, hospitality, entertainment and gaming company.

In December 2015, the plaintiffs say that they discovered a credit card data breach that impacted certain Landry's properties for several months from about May 2014 until December 2015. JPMorgan Chase and Paymentech had to pay around $20.1 million from data breach assessments by Visa and Mastercard.

Landry's, however, refused to reimburse the two companies, claiming that it did not have the obligation to do so.

The lawsuit was filed May 17 with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas.
