Republic Services Q2 profit climbs YOY

Republic Services Inc. said its second-quarter normalized net income came to 53 cents per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of 51 cents per share.

EPS increased year over year from 51 cents.

Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was $186.7 million, a gain from $183.7 million in the year-earlier period.

The normalized profit margin dropped to 8.1% from 8.2% in the year-earlier period.

Total revenue rose on an annual basis to $2.31 billion from $2.23 billion, and total operating expenses increased on an annual basis to $1.92 billion from $1.85 billion.

Reported net income grew 6.3% year over year to $190.1 million, or 54 cents per share, from $178.8 million, or 50 cents per share.
