Following the second conventional oil and gas bidding round of 2019, Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources awarded the West Ganal exploration block to Eni SpA and its partners PT Pertamina (Persero) and Neptune Energy Ltd., according to an Aug. 26 release.
Located in the Kutei Basin offshore Indonesia, the West Ganal block covers an area of about 1,129 square kilometers and adjoins the Eni-operated Muara Bakau and East Sepinggan production sharing contracts, in the Makassar Strait offshore East Kalimantan. The block includes the Maha discovery with estimated in-place gas resources in excess of 600 billion standard cubic feet, with further exploration potential.
Eni said the award expands its position and upstream activities in the Kutei Basin.
The Italian integrated oil and gas company will operate and hold a 40% stake in the block's production sharing contract while PT Pertamina and Neptune will each hold a 30% interest.
